Shooting at a Kentucky Bank Leaves Four Dead, Eight Injured

A shooting at a Louisville bank on Monday morning left four people dead and eight injured.

As reported by WLKY, Louisville Metro Police Department officers encountered an active shooter at Old National Bank around 8:30 a.m. The shooter died at the scene following an exchange with police officers. It is unclear, however, whether the suspect died of police gunfire or a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Eight people are currently being treated for wounds, including police officers. One officer was critically injured and taken for surgery at University of Louisville Hospital.

The shooter remains unidentified, however, police suspect he or she was an employee or former employee at the bank. The motive for the shooting also remains unclear at this time.

“We have set up a family assistance center for anyone involved in today’s shooting at the Kentucky International Convention Center, 3rd and Market entrance. Victims and family members please go to this location for updates,” tweeted Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg on Monday.

During a press conference, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear got emotional as he shared that he lost two close friends in the shooting.

“This is awful,” Beshear said. “I have a very close friend that didn’t make it today. And I have another close friend who didn’t either, and another who’s at the hospital who I hope is going to make it through.”

In a video provided to WLKY, gunshots could be heard followed by someone screaming, “active shooter at the bank.”

President Joe Biden also responded to the shooting by extending his prayers to the victims and those affected.

“Once again, our nation mourns after a senseless act of gun violence – Jill and I pray for the lives lost and impacted by today’s shooting. Too many Americans are paying for the price of inaction with their lives,” Biden said.

“When will Republicans in Congress act to protect our communities?” Biden concluded.
