It always give me a chuckle when I see people using the words Fossil Fuels.
Firstly, all creatures undergo normal decomposition when they die as the bones and tissues break down and are either absorbed in the environment or eaten by animals or bacteria. The popular story is that the oil we get from under the earth are from prehistoric animals.
Secondly, for anything to become a real Fossil, it had to endure sudden extreme heat or cold and then it becomes a very well preserved item. The bones and tissues do not break down in the conventional way, but the tissue is replaced by minerals and the object or creature becomes like rock!
Thus anything that is a Fossil is like a rock, and there is no oily substance in it which can be used to refine for fuel.
The term Fossil Fuels is a total contradiction!
