Christian Singer Megan Danielle Advances to Top 5 on American Idol

Christian singer Megan Danielle has advanced to the top five on the singing competition show American Idol.

According to ChurchLeaders.com, Danielle advanced to the final five Sunday night alongside Wé Ani, Zachariah Smith, Colin Stough, and Iam Tongi.

Danielle, 20, from Douglasville, Georgia, advanced to the final five after she sang “Head Over Feet,” by singer-songwriter Alanis Morrisette, who was an honorary guest judge.

Danielle also sang Ed Sheeran’s Dive alongside Stough.

“Top 5, BABY!!!! This is so cool! Thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart!!!! God bless,” Danielle later wrote on Instagram.

In a Facebook video posted in March, Danielle offered some words of encouragement before covering Hillsong United’s hit worship song “Oceans.”

“I was born to share the love of Jesus. Even though I fail every day, I sin, and I’m not perfect… I would never claim or want to be perfect,” she wrote.

“I know it is so easy to get trapped into what the world wants of you and lose focus of His word because of what the world wants … but I am here to tell you, it is all going to be okay. God loves us & WE need to share more of Him!”

During a previous episode of the show, American Idol judge Luke Bryan commended the young singer for being open about her faith.

“What I love about you—I mean, we’re way beyond loving your voice—is you’re never scared to tell everybody about your faith,” he said.

At the time, Danielle sang Go Rest High on that Mountain in tribute to her late grandfather, whom she calls “Papa.” She previously sang that song at her grandfather’s funeral.

This Sunday’s episode of American Idol will have the final top 5 participating on “‘Disney Night,” where they will “breathe new life into beloved Disney songs.” The upcoming episode will include guest mentor Sofia Carson, who played Evie in Disney’s Descendants.
