Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Says a Consistent Prayer Life Helps Him Keep God First
Baltimore Ravens Quarterback Lamar Jackson, who recently signed a five-year extension with his team, shared earlier this month that he maintains a consistent prayer life to help him keep God first.
During a press conference on May 4, Jackson shared that he plans to “finish my career [in Baltimore] and win a Super Bowl here.”
While going through the contract negotiation process, the 2019 league MVP and Pro Bowler reminded himself that God was in control.
“I kept [God] first at all times no matter what I went through,” he said. “I just kept my faith with Him, and now we’re here.”
On that same day as the press conference, Jackson posted a photo of himself signing the contract with the caption “THANK GOD.” He included the hashtag #CantThankHimEnough.

He also retweeted a meme of a serious-faced man pointing upwards captioned, “Who else is serving a God that never fails.”

During last week’s interview on “The Wunderkind Show,” Jackson urged kids who did not make a sports team or are struggling with their grades to “keep God first.”
“You gotta keep God first [and] pray to God,” Jackson said. “You gotta be consistent with God. It’s not like making a wish … like seeing a shooting star. … It’s not just one time.”
“He’s gotta pay attention to all of us, [so] it’s not just you praying to God. All of us [are] praying to God,” the quarterback continued.
Jackson, who is currently the NFL’s highest-paid player, became the youngest player to receive the Heisman Trophy during his sophomore year at the University of Louisville. He began his Heisman Trophy acceptance speech by thanking his “Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” adding that “without Him, none of this would be possible.”
In the 2019 NFL season, Jackson was named to the Pro Bowl and became the first quarterback to throw for at least 2,500 yards and rush for at least 950.
As ChurchLeaders.com reports, Jackson also pointed to “The Lord” when asked how he remains humble amid his success.
“I give Him all His praise, the glory, the honor, because of what I am,” Jackson said. “I could have been doing anything, it’s crazy. I’ll be thinking about it, talking to Him throughout the day, like, ‘Man, I appreciate You, I thank You.’”
