Michael Catt’s Health Worsens: Has Only ‘Few Months’ Left this ‘Side of Heaven,’ Family Says

The family of pastor, author and filmmaker Michael Catt on Wednesday revealed that his health and cancer have worsened as they requested prayer for him, his wife and his daughters during the “few months he has left this side of heaven.”

From 1989 to 2021, Catt served as senior pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church (Albany, Ga.) and helped launch Sherwood Pictures, a church-based movie ministry that produced Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Fireproof and Courageous. Catt served as executive producer of those four films and also as executive producer of 2015’s Woodlawn.

He is the author of multiple books, including Fireproof Your Life and Prepare for Rain. He launched ReFresh Conferences for church leaders, focusing on bringing renewal and revival into the Christian life.

“As many of you know, Michael has been courageously battling prostate cancer for the past five years. In those five years, he has been blessed to have minimal side effects or pain, despite dozens of radiation and chemo treatments,” said a tweet from his family that was posted on his Twitter account. “However, in recent months, his health has taken a turn for the worse, and he has had several surgeries, hospitalizations and emergency room visits. Recently, doctors found a tumor in his brain stem. They do not recommend operating on the tumor.

“Because of this, we have chosen to forego any future cancer treatments, with the goal now being to make him as comfortable as possible through palliative care for the few months he has left this side of heaven.”

The family requested prayer for Catt and his wife, Terri, that they “will have many precious and holy moments together in the coming weeks.”

“Ask the Lord to give her strength and comfort that only He can provide,” the family statement said.

The family also requested prayer for his daughters, Erin and Hayley, and their husbands.

“We ask that you pray for relief from any pain and unexplainable peace for Michael as he fights the good fight and finishes his race here on earth,” the family said. “We hope in heaven, where one day there will be no more suffering, pain, tears or death. Where we will one day worship at the feet of Jesus together. We trust in El Roi, the God who sees us. We look to the Good Shepherd to comfort us & make His presence known to us in our grief.”

Meanwhile, the family asked that supporters share their “favorite stories and fond memories” with the family at [email protected].

“Please know that he will not be able to take many calls at this time, as he has lost a lot of his voice as a side effect of treatments,” the statement said. “Thank you for loving our family so well. We live to make Him known, The Catt Family. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14. #NoMaverickCells”
