Dallas Jenkins Says The Chosen Won’t Be the End: ‘We’ve Got Other Bible Stories to Tell’
The creator and director of The Chosen says the company behind the hit television series likely will produce other stories based on the Bible when the final season ends.
Dallas Jenkins told Christian Headlines and other media members at the K-Love Fan Awards that fans often ask him what his plans are after the seventh and final season of The Chosen is completed. Season 4 is in production.
“Hopefully, after I take a nap for about a year when The Chosen is done, we’ve got other Bible stories to tell, because the demand seems to be so strong,” Jenkins said.
A permanent home for the series in Texas has made future projects possible, he said.
In 2021 and 2022, The Chosen moved production to Midlothian, Texas, where a multi-million-dollar sound stage and a realistic-looking first-century village set were built. The set and sound stage were built on property at the Salvation Army’s Camp Hoblitzelle.
“We needed something that we could have for our own,” Jenkins said. “… And it’s the only one like it in America. [It] allows us – and hopefully others in the future – to be able to use it to tell these kinds of stories.”
Fans, he said, are often asking, “What other stories are we going to tell?”
“So now we have an opportunity to do that for a long time,” Jenkins said.
Season 4, Jenkins said, will be full of tension.
“We’re portraying the fact that the disciples kept missing it,” Jenkins said of Jesus’ prophecies of His death and resurrection. “And so it’s … showing how much we tend to miss things because we get focused on ourselves as well.”
Meanwhile, Jenkins said the series has drawn the cast and crew members closer to Christ.
“I would say more than half of our cast and crew don’t come from a traditional faith background,” he said. “[But] we have had several actors and crew members who have said, ‘I want to know Jesus more from being part of the show.’”
