Colton Dixon Celebrates 1,000 Compassion Children Sponsored on Tour: ‘It Was Just Amazing’

Contemporary Christian artist Colton Dixon is celebrating the sponsoring of 1,000 children on his recent Build a Boat Tour, saying it demonstrates the power of the body of Christ coming together to make a difference.

Dixon’s tour with Jordan St Cyr ran from March through the middle of May and included more than 30 cities. At each stop, fans were told about Compassion International and encouraged to “sponsor” a specific child through the ministry. Compassion is a child advocacy ministry that pairs individuals with children living in poverty to “release the children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty,” according to its website. Typically, sponsorship involves a monthly financial gift for each child.

The Build a Boat Tour partnered 1,000 children with families.

“We’re such big believers in that – kids getting the help that they need, the love that they need,” Dixon told Christian Headlines. “It’s wild to me how many kids don’t get what even kids here in America do, although we’ve got that issue here in America as well. But to know that we have sponsored that many kids on a tour is incredible.”

The milestone caused Dixon to become emotional.

“I didn’t even realize that until like the second to last night of the tour. I was in my bed that night,” he said. “And I just teared up. I’m like, ‘God, that’s so cool.’ You don’t always see the end results as you’re in the trenches and chipping away.”

The Build a Boat Tour focused on children living in a specific location in Africa. Dixon said he asked Compassion officials, “Is there a part of the world or an area where you need more help?”

“Someone comes along on the tour, and they kind of share [with fans] about Compassion and what they do, and they share stories and then invite people to help,” Dixon told Christian Headlines. “It was just amazing to see the response.”
