Nine people were injured in a Washington, D.C., drive-by shooting on the Fourth of July.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, the shooting happened at 1 a.m. on Meade Street in Washington, D.C.
The nine shooting victims have non-life-threatening injuries. Two are children, ages 9 and 17, said Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Chief Leslie Parsons.
Police believe the shooting may have been a targeted attack, and police are searching for the suspect vehicle. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting with the investigation.
The shooting comes after several attacks around the country.
As Christian Headlines previously reported, a suspect in a bulletproof vest with a rifle killed at least five on Monday and injured two children in Philadelphia.
The victims, who were shot multiple times, were later identified by police as Lashyd Merritt, 20; Dymir Stanton, 29; Ralph Moralis, 59; Daujan Brown, 15; and Joseph Wamah, Jr., 31.
The 40-year-old shooter was apprehended.
The suspect had been using an AR-15-style rifle, while a 9 mm handgun, magazines and a police scanner were found on the suspect, police said.
“[The officers’] swift actions undoubtedly saved a number of lives,” said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw at a news conference this week.
Outlaw said Tuesday that the investigation is ongoing, and they are still collecting evidence and information from eyewitnesses.
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said he was tired of gun violence.
“This country needs to re-examine its conscience and find out how to get guns out of dangerous people’s hands,” he said.
Earlier this week in Baltimore, at least 30 people were injured, and two were killed at a neighborhood party.
Police Commissioner Richard Worley told reporters that the victims were ages 13 to 32, with around 14 victims under 18.
“It was a war zone. It was definitively a warzone,” one witness told ABC News.
