Less Than 1/3 of Americans Have Confidence in Organized Religion, Public Schools

According to The Christian Post, 26 percent of Americans held a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence in the public schools, matching the same result recorded in 2014 and down from 32 percent in 2021.

When it comes to the Supreme Court, 23 percent of Americans said they have a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence in the nation’s high court, an increase from 25 percent in 2022 but a decline from 36 percent in 2021.

Along partisan lines, 43 percent of Democrats, 9 percent of Republicans and 25 percent of Independents demonstrated a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence in public schools.

On the other hand, nearly half of Republicans (49 percent) reported a significant amount of confidence in the Church and organized religion, while 25 percent was reported among both Democrats and Independents.

Similarly, 43 percent of Republicans expressed a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence in the Supreme Court than 15 percent of Democrats, which likely reflects the Democrats’ disagreement with some of the court’s significant rulings, including the 2022 ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.

Additionally, 26 percent of independents reported some level of confidence in the Supreme Court.

Overall, the average confidence level in nine institutions Gallup has sampled in its survey since 1979 reached an all-time low of 26 percent this year, a slight decrease from the 27 percent measured last year and the high of 48 percent in 1979.

The survey was conducted between June 1-22 with a nationally representative sample of 1,013 U.S.
