Teen Killed, 3 Others Critically Injured in Firey Head-On Collision while Heading Home from Church

A fiery car crash in Burke, Virginia, on Tuesday, July 18, left one teenage girl dead and three other teens critically injured.

According to NBC Washington, at around 9 p.m., the deceased, a 17-year-old recent high school graduate, was driving to the nearby Burke Centre Shopping Center with two friends and her 16-year-old brother when another vehicle hit them head-on. The teens were reportedly stopping for food before heading home after attending a church service.

The head-on collision caused the teen’s car to burst into flames. According to News 4, bystanders attempted to pull the teens from the burning vehicle as they awaited the arrival of firefighters. The teen driver, however, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Fairfax County Police said they believe speed was a factor in the deadly crash, Fox 5 reports.

The three teen passengers and the driver of the second vehicle were transported to the hospital.

Henry Zarco, the deceased’s uncle, told Fox 5 that his niece was “a young girl of faith.” She recently graduated from James W. Robinson, Jr. Secondary School and was set to attend George Mason University in the fall.

Zarco also noted that his nephew, also involved in the crash, is “fighting for his life.”

Friends and family have left a stuffed bear, flowers and balloons at the crash site in honor of the late teen.

Police are investigating the crash and asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the precinct.
