Kidnappers in Haiti Demand $1 Million for American Nurse, Her Daughter

Kidnappers have issued a $1 million ransom demand for an American nurse and her daughter, who were recently taken by gunmen in Haiti.

Alix Dorsainvil, from New Hampshire, was working in Port-au-Prince with a nonprofit organization as a medical professional when she and her daughter were kidnapped from a clinic run by the Christian ministry El Roi Haiti.

One patient, Lormina Louima, told reporters: ‘When I saw the gun, I was so scared. I said, ‘I don’t want to see this. Let me go.'”

According to the Daily Mail, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “Obviously, the safety and security of American citizens overseas is our highest priority.

‘We are in regular contact with the Haitian authorities. We’ll continue to work with them and our US government interagency partners.

‘But because it’s an ongoing law enforcement investigation, there’s not more detail I can offer.”

Alix graduated from Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts. She is described by friends as a “‘deeply compassionate” and “loving person who considers Haiti her home and the Haitian people her friends and family’ by the nonprofit.”

“Alix has worked tirelessly as our school and community nurse to bring relief to those who are suffering as she loves and serves the people of Haiti in the name of Jesus,” friends said of her.

She is married to the founder and director of the organization, Sandro Dorsainvil. Sandro was raised in the capital of Haiti before he studied in the US.

On the same day Dorsainvil was kidnapped, Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued a statement, saying there was a ‘very deep concern for the situation [in Haiti], particularly with regard to the violence and the activities of the gangs’ during a meeting with his Australian counterpart.”

Meanwhile, protestors have continued to rally in Haiti calling for the violence in the country to stop and Dorsainvil to be released.
