Sen. Ron Johnson Demands Watchdog Probe of NIH Over COVID Records; Chip Roy, GOP Colleagues Sound Alarm Over CCP-Linked Money Reportedly Going to NIH Employees

Sen. Ron Johnson demands watchdog probe of NIH over COVID records

Sen. Ron Johnson has asked the Department of Health and Human Services’ inspector general to probe whether federal government scientists mishandled and concealed records about COVID-19 and other matters from the public.

Johnson (R-Wis.), 68, wrote a letter this week to HHS watchdog Christi Grimm requesting an investigation of alleged concealment and destruction of records at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) stretching back to 2014.

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic revealed June 29 that a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) senior adviser used a private email to duck Freedom of Information Act requests.

Dr. David Morens, who advised former NIAID director Dr. Anthony Fauci, said in a Sept. 29, 2021, email that he would “always try to communicate over gmail [sic] because my NIH email is FOIA’d constantly,” emails obtained by the House panel show.

Morens told colleagues to forward emails “to any of my addresses and I will delete anything I don’t want to see in the New York Times,” adding that his “gmail [sic] was hacked, probably by these GoF [gain-of-function] ass—es” and he had asked government IT specialists to look into the matter on his private account.

The US government funded risky “gain-of-function” research at Chinese research institutions, which government virologists said may have led to the accidental release of SARS-CoV-2, according to other private communications disclosed in July by the House select subcommittee. —>READ MORE HERE

Chip Roy, GOP colleagues sound alarm over CCP-linked money reportedly going to NIH employees

Lawmakers also highlighted that ‘the Open The Books report found that at least 59 payments originated from the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products’

Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy is demanding answers from the acting director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) about payments to employees from foreign entities, including some connected to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Roy led a letter with 14 of his House GOP colleagues to acting NIH Director Lawrence Tabak on Wednesday about government watchdog Open The Books’ report that said agency employees took $325 million in payments from 31 private companies worldwide.

Citing Open The Books, the lawmakers wrote that some of the payments between 2008 and 2021 came from companies “affiliated” with the CCP.

“These payments raise not only national security concerns but deepen concerns regarding the potential undue influence massive healthcare companies may have over public health agencies engaged in developing and regulating products and responding to public health threats – like COVID-19,” the Republicans wrote.

“Of particular concern, companies that were intimately involved with – and stood to financially gain from – the federal government’s COVID-19 response, such as Moderna, Pfizer, BioNTech US, and Johnson & Johnson, provided a number of payments to NIH scientists,” the letter continues.

“Naturally, providing payments to NIH scientists, even if the product was unrelated to COVID-19, raises concerns about the role these companies play in NIH decision making.”

The lawmakers also highlighted that “the Open The Books report found that at least 59 payments originated from the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products, a CCP controlled subsidiary associated with the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” the lab from which “multiple federal agencies” believe COVID-19 leaked. —>READ MORE HERE
