Ukrainian Armed Forces make progress towards Verbove, consolidate their positions – map update:
Ukrainian forces have been successful in their offensive in the Novodanylivka-Verbove area in southern Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Facebook on Aug. 29.
On the Melitopol section of the front in the south, Ukrainian units are consolidating their positions on the new front lines, and are now directing artillery fire on Russian targets behind the lines, as well as conducting counter-battery fire.
Ukrainian forces are also continuing to advance south of Bakhmut, consolidating their positions and holding back the Russian offensive on the Kupyansk, Lyman, and Bakhmut parts of the front in eastern Ukraine.
Russian invasion forces have been unsuccessful in their attempts to advance near Avdiyivka, Maryinka and Klishchiyivka in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine’s General Staff also reported. Heavy fighting continues.
“The enemy is suffering significant losses in personnel, weapons, and equipment, is moving units and troops, and is actively using reserves,” the General Staff added.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry on Aug. 28 officially confirmed the liberation of the village of Robotyne in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, which Ukrainian forces were first reported to have entered six days ago. —>READ MORE HERE
Ukraine says it has liberated strategic southeastern settlement Robotyne:
Ukraine’s forces claimed to have recaptured the strategically important settlement of Robotyne in the southeast and were trying to push south – despite facing elaborate Russian defenses and minefields.
Monday’s announcement came days after the Ukrainian military said that its troops had raised the national flag in the village, but were still carrying out mopping-up operations.
“Robotyne has been liberated,” Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar was quoted as saying by the military.
Maliar added that Kyiv’s forces were advancing along the southern front, but she pointed out that “the enemy is throwing all its forces at these areas in order not to surrender the occupied position.”
Ukrainians believe they have punched through the most difficult line of Russian defenses in the south and that they will now pick up the pace of their slow-moving counteroffensive, now approaching its third month, a commander who led troops into Robotyne told Reuters last week.
Robotyne is six miles south of the frontline town of Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region on an important road towards Tokmak — a Russian-occupied road and rail hub.
Tokmak’s capture would mark a breakthrough as Ukrainian troops march towards the Sea of Azov in a maneuver intended to split Russian forces in two. —>READ MORE HERE
