Sound of Freedom Director Announces New Movie, Cabrini: It’s an ‘Unbelievable Story’
The studio that released the box office hit movie Sound of Freedom has announced a new project for 2024, and it has a familiar director.
Alejandro Monteverde, the director behind Sound of Freedom, is the director of the 2024 movie Cabrini, which is scheduled for a March 8 release and will tell the story of Francesca Cabrini, a 19th-century Catholic missionary who was born in Italy and dedicated her life to helping the poor. She founded more than 60 schools, hospitals and orphanages.
Angel Studios, which distributed Sound of Freedom, will release Cabrini.
An Angel news release described her as a “poor, audacious Italian immigrant who became one of the great entrepreneurs of the 19th century.”
“Through her willpower, courage, compassion, and business skill, she overcame sexism and violent anti-Italian bigotry while fighting against an establishment seeking to hold her back,” Angel said.
Liz Ellis, chief operating officer at Angel Studios, said audiences will be encouraged by Cabrini’s story.
“Francesca Cabrini is one of the most inspiring and influential figures in modern history, and yet few know her story,” Ellis said. “Faced with seemingly insurmountable life obstacles, Cabrini chose instead to focus on how she could change the status quo in her time, and her impact on the world is still felt today. We’re thrilled to be able to share her unbelievable story in theaters this Spring.”
The Angel Guild, Ellis said, gave Cabrini “even higher ratings” than Sound of Freedom. The Guild is a pool of some 100,000 Angel supporters who watch concept footage or fully completed films and vote on whether the studio should back it.
“Our community has high expectations for this project,” Ellis said.
Cabrini stars Cristiana Dell’Anna (Gomorrah, Trust), John Lithgow (Third Rock from the Sun, Footloose, The Old Man), David Morse (The Green Mile, The Rock, St. Elsewhere), Giancarlo Giannini (Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale) and Federico Castelluccio (The Sopranos, El Cantante).
