Sound of Freedom Rises to No. 1 in 19 Countries: It’s a ‘Global Movement for Change’

Inspired by a true story, the film follows a federal agent as he quits his job to travel internationally and save children from a sex trafficking ring. It was No. 1 on opening day in the United States and has grossed more than $180 million domestically.

Eighteen of the countries where it opened at No. 1 are in Latin America.

Jared Geesey, chief distribution officer at Angel Studios, said some industry experts “argued our film would not be able to translate this success overseas.”

“We’re grateful to our fans for proving them wrong, and making us the number one movie in Latin America,” Geesey said. “We’re seeing packed theaters, standing ovations, widespread enthusiasm, and strong word-of-mouth from Buenos Aires to Mexico City to Bogota to Caracas, Lima, and beyond.”

The 18 Latin American countries where Sound of Freedom opened No. 1 are Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Belize, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina and the Dominican Republic.

“We set a goal of reaching 2 million in advance ticket sales – which took a full week in the U.S. – and reached that goal in just four days in Latin America,” Geesey said. “This film is fast-becoming a global movement for change.”

In the U.S., Sound of Freedom is the 10th-highest-grossing film of 2023 and ranks ahead of such films as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Fast X and Elemental.

It stars Jim Caviezel and Mira Sorvino.
