Hillsong Founder Brian Houston’s Daughter, Son-in-Law to Plant New Church
The daughter and son-in-law of Hillsong founder Brian Houston have announced plans to launch a new church in Sydney, Australia.
As reported by ChurchLeaders.com, the couple made the announcement in a video posted to Instagram last week.
“We love His church. Past, present…aaaand future. We filmed some late night talkin’. Turn the sound up, hear our hearts & stay tuned for more details in the weeks & months to come. We’re planting a new church. Much love. Pete & Laura”, the couple captioned the video.

The Toganivalus previously served as Hillsong Church’s global pastors of Hillsong Young & Free and resigned from their positions earlier this year.
In the video, Peter said that he and Laura “feel on our heart that we want to pioneer a church in Sydney, Australia.”
“I want to stand on the shoulders of the giants that have gone before us and step into this new way of pioneering whatever that’s going to look like,” Peter said.
He also noted that God has been speaking to them through multiple books and booklets “about the type of community and the sort of place and environment we want to create for people.”
Meanwhile, Laura described herself as having “roots and wings,” a phrase that a Hillsong staff member gave to her and Peter.
“We have these roots that run deep and they run wide, but we also have wings that are launching us into the future. And I think that’s just the most beautiful picture of where we’re at.”
“We’re excited to create a church that is a loving community to grow together in the face of Christ,” Laura said. “There are so many people who are yet to hear, who are yet to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior…Our assignment here on earth is to tell the world about Jesus, and I’m so looking forward to doing that,” she concluded.
Brian Houston, the former Global Senior Pastor of Hillsong, commented, “I’M IN. SEE YOU THERE!!”. Last month, he was cleared of all charges pertaining to covering up his father’s child abuse sex crimes.
According to Christian Premier News, he stepped from the evangelical megachurch in 2022 and has yet to confirm his future ministry plans.
