NY POST: Ukraine launches large missile attack on key Crimean port, injuring dozens:

Ukraine unleashed a barrage of missiles and attack boats on a strategic Russian naval port in the annexed Crimean city of Sevastopol early Wednesday, injuring dozens and marking its largest apparent attack on the Black Sea Fleet since the start of Russia’s unprovoked war.

Kyiv broke its tradition of remaining coy about its counterattacks and acknowledged the blitz on Russian warships and naval infrastructure in a public statement.

“On the morning of Sept. 13 the Ukrainian armed forces conducted successful strikes on naval assets and port infrastructure of the occupiers at the docks of temporarily occupied Sevastopol,” it said on Telegram.

“We confirm a large landing vessel and submarine were hit. We do not comment on the means (used) for the strike,” Ukrainian military intelligence official Andriy Yusov said, without elaborating on damage or casualties.

“It really is the biggest attack on Sevastopol since the beginning of the war,” retired Ukrainian navy captain Andriy Ryzhenko added.

He speculated that Ukraine used modified domestically made Neptune anti-ship missiles, while Sky News reported that Storm Shadow missiles provided by France and the UK were deployed. —>READ MORE HERE

WSJ: Russian Navy Shipyard Targeted by Missile Strikes in Sevastopol; Two Vessels Hit

Ukrainian strikes hit the home of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Crimea

Ukraine hit Russian Navy dry docks in the Crimean port city of Sevastopol with missiles, damaging a Russian submarine and a large landing ship in one of the most spectacular blows to Russian naval power since the war began.

The commander of Ukraine’s Air Force, Lt. Gen. Mykola Oleshchuk, hinted that the overnight strikes, which caused massive explosions that rocked Russia’s principal dry dock on the Black Sea, were made using the Storm Shadow cruise missiles that the United Kingdom and France began supplying to Ukraine in May

“While the occupiers experience a ‘storm’ and recover from the night-time fire show in Sevastopol, I thank the pilots of the Ukrainian Air Force for their wonderful work,” Oleshchuk said on Telegram. “There will be more.”

Russia’s Ministry of Defense acknowledged that two warships undergoing repair had been damaged after what it described as a barrage of 10 Ukrainian missiles. The ministry said it had intercepted seven of these missiles, and pledged that both damaged vessels would be repaired.

Footage from the dry dock at the Sevmorzavod shipyard showed that one of the two vessels, the large landing ship Minsk, was completely destroyed, with most of its bridge torn apart and collapsed. Satellite imaging also showed considerable damage inflicted on the second vessel, the Rostov-on-Don submarine.

Rostov-on-Don is one of only six Kilo-class submarines that the Russian Black Sea Fleet possesses, and it has been frequently used to fire cruise missiles at Ukrainian cities. Ukraine doesn’t have any known effective anti-submarine capabilities.

Moscow has long warned that attacks on Crimea, a peninsula that Russia captured in 2014 and then used as a springboard for invading the rest of Ukraine in February 2022, would cross the Kremlin’s “red lines” and could spark a nuclear response. Last summer, Russia’s former President Dmitry Medvedev, who serves as deputy head of the country’s National Security Council, promised a “judgment day” for Ukrainian leaders who dare to threaten Crimea. —>READ MORE HERE
