Kevin McCarthy's First Address after Historic Vote to Remove Him as Speaker of the House

After losing the vote to retain his position, Former Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, began his address to his colleagues with a quote from Abraham Lincoln: “I’m an optimist because I don’t see any other way.”

Unfortunately, optimism wasn’t enough to thwart the historic vote to oust him as Speaker.

This is the first time the House has voted to remove its speaker, with a 216-210 vote, a move orchestrated by a group of far-right lawmakers, the NYT reported

“If you believe your principles bring greater freedom, you should be happy about it,” Ronal Reagan.

A self-proclaimed happy conservative and happy American, McCarthy spent some time revisiting his roots, road to Washington, and appreciation for the opportunity to serve his country.

“I got elected to a seat I couldn’t get an internship for,” he said, “I ended up being the 55th Speaker of the House. One of the greatest honors. I loved every minute of it.”

He confirmed he will not run for Speaker again.
