FBI Director Warns of Rising Terror Threats Following Hamas’ Attack on Israel
FBI Director Christopher Wray is warning of an increasing threat of terror attacks in the United States following Hamas’ attack on Israel last weekend.
Wray told reporters it’s possible that Hamas and additional terror groups could order their supporters to carry out terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.
“The threat is very much ongoing, and in fact, the threat picture continues to evolve,” Wray said. “Here in the U.S., we cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas or other foreign terrorist organizations could exploit the conflict to call on their supporters to conduct attacks on our own soil.”
Per CBS News, he also noted that there have been threats laid against Jews and Muslims as well as their institutions and houses of worship. Wray said that the FBI is “moving quickly to mitigate” the threats, adding that security officials are also keeping an eye out for “lone actors” who could potentially commit violence on their own.
Former FBI Special Agent Eric Caron, who currently serves as a security and counter-terrorism consultant to governments, told CBN News, “We have over a thousand joint terrorism task force cases going on here in America today relating to Muslim extremists.”
In 2023, about 151 people on the FBI’s Terrorism Watch list trying to enter the U.S. through the southern border illegally were caught, which is 50 times higher than two years ago.
“The idea that they don’t want to attack us again like a 9-11, but even bigger is foolish. They want to attack us. They want to destroy America,” Caron said.
The warning of increased threats comes over a week after Hamas killed at least 1,300 people in Israel, with additional tragedies taking place throughout the past week. On Monday, police in Brussels, Belgium, fatally shot a man who killed two Swede nationals and injured a third following an automatic rifle attack.
According to the New York Times, one former student went on a stabbing spree, killing one French literature teacher and injuring three others in what officials called an Islamic terrorist attack. The incident comes just a few days before France commemorates the third anniversary of another teacher who was beheaded by an Islamic extremist for showing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in his class to illustrate free speech.
On Monday, hundreds attended the funeral of a Palestinian-American boy named Wadea Al-Fayoume in Plainfield, Illinois, after being killed by a landlord upset about the war between Israel and Hamas.
“He’s a 6-year-old kid – just like any other six-year-old kid,” the boy’s uncle, Mahmoud Yousef, said. “He likes to play games. He’s a very kind kid.”
Meanwhile, Al-Fayoume’s mother is currently hospitalized after she was attacked by the landlord.
