Protests Surrounding the Conflict in Israel Are Increasing in Magnitude Globally

Protestors around the world are calling for a ceasefire in the violence between Israel and Hamas terrorists.

According to The Washington Post, millions around the world have taken part in protests, including rallies in Austin, New York City, Los Angeles, Sydney, and other cities.

The group Jewish Voice for Peace took to the main concourse of Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal over the weekend, wearing black shirts that said, “Not in our name.” The group was calling for a ceasefire.

“This has to stop,” Steve Auerbach, a New York pediatrician who attended the protest, told the New York Times. “Calling for a ceasefire should be considered a mainstream, normative position.”

Meanwhile, pro-Palestinian protests have also been taking place globally, including in Rome, Paris, Beirut and Baghdad. Outside the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Palestinian activists rallied in support of Palestine, while in Karachi, Pakistan, activists burned U.S. and Israeli flags.

According to CBN News, In Russia, hundreds stormed the airport in the Dagestan region on Sunday, chanting antisemitic slogans and surrounding a flight that had arrived from Tel Aviv, Israel. Dagestan’s Ministry of Health said more than 20 people were injured in the incident, with two in critical condition.

At one rally in Istanbul, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Israel an “occupier” in Gaza.

“I reiterate that Hamas is not a terrorist organization. Israel was very offended by this … Israel is an occupier; Erdogan speaks clearly because Turkey does not owe you anything,” he told supporters over the weekend.

In response, other countries around the world have tried denouncing or banning pro-Palestinian protests, but protestors have said they are advocating for Palestinian citizens and not Hamas soldiers.

“The superpowers at play are not doing enough at the moment. This is why we’re here: We’re calling for a ceasefire, calling for Palestinian rights, the right to exist, to live, human rights, all our rights,” London protester Camille Revuelta told Reuters. “This is not about Hamas. This is about protecting Palestinian lives.”
