Israeli Forces Execute Precision Operation Inside Gaza Hospital, Uncover Hamas Command Center
IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said this week that a priority of the operation is to avoid civilian casualties.
“Based on intelligence information and an operational necessity, IDF forces are carrying out a precise and targeted operation against Hamas in a specified area in the Shifa Hospital,” he said.
According to Reuters, troops were able to get inside the hospital after killing Hamas militants stationed outside.
The patients inside are trapped without electricity to operate medical equipment, sources said, and many displaced residents have also moved to the hospital, hoping for shelter.
Israeli officials say they are working to help those patients and residents.
“We can confirm that incubators, baby food, and medical supplies brought by IDF tanks from Israel have successfully reached the Shifa hospital. Our medical teams and Arabic-speaking soldiers are on the ground to ensure that these supplies reach those in need,” it said.
Israel’s military also announced on Wednesday that soldiers had found a command center, weapons, and combat gear inside the Gaza hospital.
IDF believes Al Shifa Hospital is the “beating heart” of Hamas operations, with Hamas soldiers operating beneath the hospital in tunnels.
Meanwhile, Hamas officials have called the statements “lies and cheap propaganda.”
In one hospital department, “the soldiers located an operational command center and technological assets belonging to Hamas, indicating that the terrorist organization uses the hospital for terrorist purposes,” an Israeli military statement said.
The released video shows materials such as weapons, grenades, and ammunition inside the hospital.
“There is no place in Gaza that we cannot reach. There are no hideouts,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.
“We will reach and eliminate Hamas, and we will bring back our hostages. These are two sacred missions,” he said.
The hospital operation is the latest in Israel’s campaign against Hamas. The conflict started on Oct. 7 when Hamas militants made a surprise attack that killed some 1,200 people and took 240 people captive.
According to Reuters, Gaza health officials have reported 11,500 Palestinians dead, with about 40 percent of those being children. More casualties are thought to be buried in rubble sites.
Israeli officials have ordered mandatory evacuations in parts of Gaza, and about two-thirds of its residents are now homeless.
