Elizabeth Tabish: ‘The Chosen’ Christmas Movie Is a ‘Beacon of Hope’ for a War-Torn World
Actress Elizabeth Tabish says a war-torn world needs to hear the messages of peace and hope that are the focus of an upcoming special Christmas-themed movie based on The Chosen.
That movie, Christmas with The Chosen: Holy Night, will be in theaters for six nights, Dec. 12-17, blending two Nativity-flavored episodes — “The Messengers” and “The Shepherd” — into one remastered and re-scored story. It also includes a performance by Andrea and Matteo Bocelli.
Tabish portrays Mary Magdalene.
“There’s so much pain going on in the world right now. There’s so much tragedy,” Tabish told Christian Headlines. “… [The movie] is about the birth of Jesus. And it’s told through a few different perspectives. But all of it comes down to this beacon of hope, which is the Christ child and the peace and joy and freedom that comes with that and with Him.”
Currently, there are more than 25 wars or conflicts around the world, including high-profile ones in Israel/Gaza and the Ukraine.
“You look around, you watch the news, and people are hurting so badly. And it’s hard to know what to do about it. And it’s hard to imagine peace on this earth. And I’m excited for this to be out in the world for people to watch this to be reminded of peace.”
The two episodes, she added, are “edited together in this really seamless way” where it “almost feels like it’s always been told this way.”
Tabish also is anticipating Season 4 of The Chosen which will land in theaters early next year. It is believed to be the first time that the full season of a streaming series has debuted at the box office prior to landing on its traditional platform.
The acting by her castmates in the season, she said, is “incredible.”
“The stakes are getting higher,” she said of the plot. “There’s a lot of pain this season. There’s a lot of grief this season. But there’s also hope and light. It’s got some of my absolute favorite stories in the gospels this season that I’m really excited for people to see.”
Tabish’s character is maturing, she said.
“This season, she’s confident in being a part of the group,” Tabish told Christian Headlines. “… But she’s starting to, I think, just pay attention to these things that Jesus is saying that maybe some of the other disciples are not taking seriously. I think she’s becoming aware that something really drastic is about to happen. And so she’s kind of turning into this observer and really thoughtful witness.”
