Making Christmas Bright: Non-Profit, The Lighthouse, Meets Increased Demand to Support Recovering Addicts

The Lighthouse, a ministry that helps those struggling with addiction, is working on offering extra care for the winter months and holidays.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, the most dangerous time of the year for drug and alcohol-related deaths are in December, January, and March. While for many, the holidays are a time of family and togetherness, others may see the season as a dark and lonely time.

The Lighthouse, a non-profit organization located in Indiana, has several programs and services for people struggling with addiction and also facing the winter month.

According to Mission Network News, the organization is preparing for the holiday season with its range of services for adults.

The organization offers community groups, consultation services, drug testing, mentorship, counseling, and residential homes for recovering male addicts.

“Our 28-bed men’s addiction recovery biblical program is a result of our care and love for people,” Executive Director Brandon Bower said.

“We welcome men from all over the country who are struggling with life-altering addictions. We love them through the Gospel, help them get back on their feet, and put things like addiction aside.”

The men in the program have access to an exercise center and healthy meal options.

“It’s amazing to see someone so broken and sick start to smile again, reconnect with family, and have hope for the first time in a long time,” Bower said.

The Lighthouse was launched in 2014.

According to The Lighthouse’s 2022 Impact Report, the organization provided $28,525 in financial assistance to those in need and donated some 15,000 pounds of food.

More than 830 mentorship hours were logged, and another 4,000 hours of volunteers’ time was also logged.

“It is only by God’s grace and faithfulness that The Lighthouse has become the ministry it is today,” the August newsletter of The Lighthouse said. “What started as an idea, born out of frustration, God has turned into a thriving ministry for His purpose and glory. I am humbled to be a part of God’s amazing work.”
