The Christmas Story is Set Apart from ‘Every Other Theology,’ Max Lucado Says
With Christmas coming up, Pastor and author Max Lucado shared why the Nativity story stands out from “every other theology.”
“The uniqueness of the Christian faith is that we believe in a God who came to us before we went to Him,” Lucado told CBN Digital in a recent interview. “Every other theology, philosophy, every other approach to God says, ‘Do this, and maybe God will notice you or accept you.’ It’s a relationship based on performance.”
When it comes to Christmas, Lucado noted that it is about celebrating Christ who came to us “ before “we even knew we needed him.”
On Dec. 5-7, Lucado will release his film, titled Max Lucado’s Because of Bethlehem, in theaters nationwide. The film, which features a live concert, is meant to bring families “the magic and wonder of Christmastime” as Lucado will share from his holiday memories, a Christmas message, and music from Christian artists like Evan Craft, Matt Maher, Matthew West, Anne Wilson, and more.
According to Faithwire, Lucado hopes the event will encourage people to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.
“He was here not in the form of a volcano, lightning bolt, or angry prophet, but He was here in the form of a baby, He was here in the form of an embryo, He was here in the form of a seed,” the author said. “And He could not have condescended more, and He could not have gone further, and not only that, He was born in humility, not born in a castle in Rome, or some villa in Greece, but He condescended himself to the home of a simple carpenter.”
Lucado also noted that Christ’s decision to live in “obscurity and anonymity” for the first 30 years of His life reflects His humility and grace in addition to other aspects of Christianity.
“He is the picture of grace, God entering our world, finding us, seeking us out,” he said. “And so I just never get tired of that story. I love telling it. I love hearing it. I love looking for new ways to share it.”
Although the upcoming film is a new retelling of the Christmas story, he contends it comes when the world needs truth.
“Given what the world is going through right now, don’t we need a reminder of a God … who comes looking for us?” Lucado said, adding the state of the world is “fragile.”
He added, “I think the world is hungry.”
