Daddy Yankee Retires from Reggaeton, Devotes Himself to Christianity during Final Show

Reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee announced that he had dedicated himself to Christianity during his final show on his farewell tour on Sunday.
“My people, this day for me is the most important day of my life. And I want to share it with you because living a life of success is not the same as living a life with purpose,” the artist, born Ramón Ayala, shared in Spanish while on the stage in his native Puerto Rico.
“I have to confess that those days are over. Someone was able to fill that emptiness,” he sobbed, noting that he had not felt fulfilled throughout some time in his career.
According to The Christian Post, Ayala went on to share that despite the accolades in his career, he quoted Mark Mark 8:36, which reads, “What good will it be for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?”
“That is why tonight, I recognize, and I am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Jesus lives in me and that I will live for him,” he said as the crowd applauded.
Ayala also shared that he will go by his birth name going forward.
“To all the people who followed me, follow Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life,” he added, alluding to John 14:6. “Just like Jesus, with his mercy, allowed me to travel the world, in your mercy, Father, I hope you allow me to evangelize the world from Puerto Rico. Amen.”
Outside the venue, dozens of drones put together a cross with messages such as “Cristo te Ama” and “Cristo viene,” which is translated to “Christ loves you” and “Christ is coming” in Spanish.
In Ayala’s Instagram bio, he described himself as “Discípulo De Cristo, Músico y Empresario,” which means Disciple of Christ, Musician, and Business in English.
He also posted his remarks about coming to faith in a clip with over 2 million likes. Per Faithwire, Ayala captioned the post with Matthew 16:26-27, which reads, “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds” (NLT).

Ayala rose to fame in 2004 with the hit single “Gasolina” and reached crossover success in 2017 when he was featured in the song “Despacito” with Latin pop star Luis Fonsi. The song amassed 8 million views and became the first Spanish song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since ” Macarena ” was released in 1996.
