Brian Houston ‘Excited’ to Launch New Church, Online Ministry in 2024
Hillsong founder Brian Houston announced that he and his wife, Bobbi, plan to launch a new church in 2024.
“Bobbie and I are starting a weekly online ministry and church in 2024. I’m excited about building this new community, “ he wrote on X Saturday.

Houston’s announcement comes a year after he resigned as Hillsong’s global senior pastor following allegations of misconduct with two women. At the time, Houston also faced charges over covering up his father’s sexual abuse of children. In August, however, an Australian court acquitted him of all charges.
Despite his departure from Hillsong, Houston continued to speak in churches worldwide. As reported by Relevant, he announced late last month that he is working on a “very authentic and transparent” autobiography.
“Writing a book is hard work. I’m writing my very authentic and transparent auto-biography. I hope it illuminates people and blesses people,” he wrote.
In March of this year, Houston shared that he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence when he was in the United States last year.
“At the time, it seemed like all hell had broken loose within Hillsong Church, and I was under immense pressure and emotional strain,” he said in a statement. “Clearly, that is not an excuse, and I take full responsibility for my actions. Thirteen months have [passed] since that incident occurred, and I am now in a much stronger place within my spirit and soul.”
According to Church Leaders, Houston pleaded guilty to the DUI, was sentenced to three years probation, and was fined $140. Additionally, he was required to complete an alcohol program, receive victim impact counseling, and participate in self-help meetings.
Houston’s church launch announcement comes two months after his daughter, Laura Toganivalu, and her husband, Peter, announced the launch of a new church following their resignation as global pastors of Hillsong’s youth ministry, Hillsong Young & Free.
