Haley Vows to Continue Despite Defeat to Trump in New Hampshire Primary
Former President Donald Trump has won the Republican primary Tuesday night in New Hampshire.
As reported by the New York Times, Trump defeated former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley with a voter percentage of 54.6 percent over 43.2 percent.
Despite the loss, Haley told supporters that she will not drop out of the presidential race, CBNC reports.
“What a great night”, she said during a speech shortly after networks projected Trump’s victory.
Over in Nashua, Trump delivered a victory speech after he won Tuesday night.
“Let’s not have somebody take a victory when she had a very bad night,” Trump said of Haley. “She had a very bad night.”
Meanwhile, one Republican fundraiser shared that one donor who raised $100,000 for Haley said that “they are one.”
“It’s over. I’m sure there more as the night goes,” the fundraiser, who chose to remain anonymous continued.
He also shared that he has heard from Haley financers who are also looking for an exit.
On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden won his party’s New Hampshire primary as a write-in candidate since his name was not included on the ballot.
“It is now clear that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee,” Biden said in a statement released by his campaign.
“And my message to the country is the stakes could not be higher. Our Democracy. Our personal freedoms — from the right to choose to the right to vote. Our economy — which has seen the strongest recovery in the world since COVID. All are at stake.”
Biden also called on Republicans and independents to support him in this November’s general election.
“It was a historic demonstration of commitment to our democratic process,” Biden said. “And I want to say to all those Independents and Republicans who share our commitment to core values of our nation — our Democracy, our personal freedoms, an economy that gives everyone a fair shot — to join us as Americans.”
