Netanyahu demands: Send high-profile prisoners to Qatar in hostage deal – report
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has demanded that all “heavy” prisoners released in an expected Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal would be sent directly to Qatar upon their release from Israeli jails, N12 reported on Sunday evening.
According to the report, that demand has not yet been discussed with mediators during negotiations.
The term “heavy” prisoner refers to the high-profile nature of the crime for which said inmate was imprisoned, with Palestinians imprisoned for murdering Israelis in terror attacks considered “heavier” than inmates with no blood on their hands.
Israel and Hamas have butted heads over hostage release details
Details of an additional hostage-prisoner exchange have been a point of contention between Israel and Hamas, with the two sides clashing over the number of Palestinian prisoners that should be released for each hostage.
Late last week, an Israeli delegation held talks with representatives from the US, Qatar, and Egypt in Paris to advance the discussions regarding hostage releases.
Additionally, Israel has been unable to confirm precisely how many of the Israeli hostages held by Hamas have been killed in captivity.
On Sunday, the IDF confirmed the death of 19-year-old Sgt. Oz Daniel, who had been taken captive by Hamas, along with his tank crew during the Islamist terror organization’s rampage through southern Israel.
