Selling Abortion Pills Bloodies The Hands Of Walgreens And CVS
As the U.S. Supreme Court weighs whether the Food and Drug Administration wrongfully endorsed abortion pills by mail without regard to its detrimental and fatal effects on women and babies, hundreds of Walgreens and CVS Health stores across the United States will start dispensing dangerous abortion-inducing drugs this month.
The pharmacies declined to sell mifepristone in some areas after Republican leaders in states like Texas and Kansas threatened legal action, but plan to offer the abortion-inducing drugs in six pro-abortion, Democrat-run states: California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.
President Joe Biden celebrated the chemical abortion sales as an “important milestone” that should be mimicked by “all pharmacies.”
Since the drug’s approval in 2000, mifepristone has become responsible for more than half of the nation’s abortions. The pill works by cutting off the hormones babies in utero require to grow and flourish, killing the child essentially via starvation. Then, it induces a form of labor that causes the baby to exit the body amid profuse bleeding that may last weeks or even months.
Under the Biden administration, the FDA quietly modified its already debated regulation to accommodate the White House’s post-Roe activism and open the door for the nation’s pharmacies to become abortion pill dispensaries. Before that decision, mifepristone could only be obtained via clinic, doctor, or mail order, a lockdown-era provision the Biden administration made permanent in 2021.
The drastic shift in how women obtain abortion pills means most women are downing the drugs at home alone, leaving them susceptible to hemorrhage and other complications such as “fast, weak pulse,” “pain” across the back, arms, neck, and abdomen, “shortness of breath,” diarrhea, dizziness, headache, and vomiting.
That’s not to mention the mental anguish of potentially seeing one’s dead baby emerge into the bathtub or toilet. Chemical abortions often take a chronic emotional toll on women.
Life-saving reversals for chemical abortions are available in the form of extra progesterone, but Walgreens and CVS do not appear to explicitly advertise or promote their use. In recent years, the same corporate media outlets that defended the pharmacies’ decisions to sell mifepristone have even tried to cast doubt on abortion pill reversals by claiming they “lack any scientific backing,” “aren’t medically sound and could be unsafe,” and “unfounded and unproven.”
Those same outlets claim that mifepristone, which is responsible for a 500 percent increase in abortion-related emergency room visits, is “safe.” Even worse, after more than two decades on the medical market as an FDA-approved drug, the go-to abortion pill has caused countless infant and several mother fatalities.
In the name of advancing abortion on demand and turning a profit, CVS and Walgreens are choosing to dispense a product that is proven to damage women’s and babies’ lives.
