Biden Kicks Off State Of The Union With Whoppers About Alabama IVF Ruling

During the first 10 minutes of his 2024 State of the Union speech, President Joe Biden falsely claimed that the Alabama Supreme Court “shut down IVF treatments across the state,” when in reality it ruled that embryos are people with inherent value, not legal property.

Biden didn’t simply claim that the Cotton State’s court decision to classify embryos as minors under the state’s wrongful death act launched “another assault on freedom” that affected people like his SOTU guest Latorya Beasley, a woman whose embryo transfer was canceled by her Alabama provider. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s guest was also an IVF client.

He also pinned the ultimate blame for the Alabama Supreme Court’s ruling on the “Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade.”

Contrary to the Democrat’s sweeping claims, the Alabama Supreme Court’s civil ruling never dictated how Big Fertility in the state should approach assisted reproductive technologies (ART) or embryo creation. It was fertility facilities in the state that chose to abruptly halt their IVF operations after independently determining that serially creating and discarding unlimited embryos might put them on the legal hook for negligence.

The reason is not pro-life Republicans’ or the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court’s fault. It’s Democrats and the corporate media, for lying about the details of the ruling to advance their abortion and ART for all agendas.

If anything, the Alabama decision gave people who use IVF more legal protection. Instead of acknowledging that fact, Biden used lies and deception to cover for his ART policy goals.

“What [Beasley’s] family had to go through should never have happened. Unless Congress acts, will happen again. So tonight, let’s stand up for families like hers,” Biden said.

He even begged Republicans to get on board with Democrat legislation that would effectively secure the unlimited creation and destruction of healthy embryos in all 50 states by punishing any entity that tries to “unduly restrict access” to a range of reproductive technologies.

“To my friends across the aisle, don’t keep this waiting any longer. Guarantee the right to IVF. Guarantee it nationwide,” the president urged.

Democrat Sen. Tammy Duckworth’s bill, which was sidelined by Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith last week, wouldn’t just give immunity to IVF. The legislation is vague enough that it could easily be construed to cover the creation of motherless and fatherless children, commercial surrogacy, experimental transhumanist technologies like artificial wombs“gene editing,” and the creation of eggs outside of women’s reproductive systems.

Biden pulled out falsehoods, fearmongering, and trickery to try to convince Congress and Americans that Democrats’ extremism on abortion and ART is necessary.

Already, there is Republican hesitation to pass legislation that would effectively trample on Americans’ religious freedom to oppose outsourced reproduction. That hesitation should continue, especially as Biden and Democrats repeatedly lie about IVF and ART to score political points ahead of the 2024 general election.
