A series of airstrikes targeted sites belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in the Deir Ezzor region of eastern Syria on Monday night, with initial reports indicating senior IRGC members were meeting at one of the targeted sites, according to Syrian media.
Several deaths and injuries were reported in the strikes, according to the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen TV.
A source in the pro-Assad regime National Defense Forces militia stated that 10 airstrikes were carried out in Al-Mayadeen, Al-Bukamal, and in villages in the area, according to the Iranian Mehr News Agency.
Possible American involvement
Several Syrian news outlets blamed the US for the airstrikes, although there was no confirmation from American sources. An American military official told Al Jazeera on Monday night that the US did not launch any strikes in Syria.

Some reports from the region indicated that an IRGC commander known as “Hajj Asker” was injured or killed in the strike, although there was no official confirmation from Iranian or official Syrian sources as of early Tuesday morning.
The strikes come a day after a drone and rocket attack targeted the Kharab al-Jir base used by the US-led coalition in northeast Syria, according to Syrian reports.
