Two wounded in terror shooting in West Bank, IDF in pursuit of terrorist
Two people were wounded from gunshots fired at a bus on Road 55 near the Nabi Ilyas Junction in the West Bank, near Karnei Shomron, in a suspected terror attack, Israeli media reported on Sunday.
The military said it had received reports of the shooting, and forces had been dispatched to the scene.
The military radio reported the terrorist had fled the area and that UAVs had been sent to the scene to aid in the pursuit.
The police said the Road had been blocked in both directions.
Magen David Adom (MDA) reported a 19-year-old woman was in serious condition, and a 50-year-old man had been moderately wounded in the attack.
MDA paramedic Assaf Ilkashi recounted what he saw at the scene, “We arrived on the scene in large numbers. We saw the casualty on the bus; she was fully conscious with a gunshot wound to her shoulder. We provided life-saving treatment and evacuated her in a MICU to hospital, in serious condition.”
Regional Council Heads respond to the attack
Yossi Dagan, head of the Shomron Regional Council, made a statement after arriving at the scene.
“An attack on a main road in a central location in the State of Israel is not something that should happen. We have been warning and shouting for some time – to close the security checkpoints.”
We expect the Government of Israel, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defense, the members of the Cabinet, the Chief of Staff, and the Command Commander to clearly direct the immediate closure of all security checkpoints.Continue and increase offensive activity against the Palestinian Authority, whether Hamas or Fatah are the ones behind this,” Dagan added.
Head of the Karnei Shomron Council Yonatan Kuznitz added, “The attack here is behind us – the writing was on the wall. Two weeks ago, we cried out over the opening of the checkpoints, and just last week we talked about this exact spot, a critical point where an attack happened. We demand to close Palestinian traffic, make it more difficult for them to move here, and return the security in the region.”
