Gantz submits resolution for establishment of state inquiry into events of Oct. 7
Minister-without-portfolio and chairman of the National Unity party Benny Gantz, submitted a proposal for a resolution to establish a commission of inquiry into the events of October 7, Israeli media reported Sunday.
The commission is expected to investigate all the events that preceded the war and Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7. It will also investigate conduct during the war on both the political and military levels.
According to Gantz, the issues to be investigated are “of vital importance at this time.” He requested that the investigation’s results be forwarded to the government as soon as possible.
What are the details of Gantz’s demands to investigate?
The investigation is expected to look into four main different aspects conducted before the Israel-Hamas war.
According to reports, the investigation will first examine the decision-making on the political and security level before the war began. This will include looking into various operations that were previously conducted in the Gaza Strip.
The committee will then examine the policy and decision-making of the political and security groups who were responsible for the safeguarding of Israel’s border areas before Hamas’s attack and infiltration of the borders on October 7.
The investigation will also examine how alert security and intelligence bodies were during the attacks and how they dealt with the October 7 events.
Lastly, the investigation is expected to examine the events of October 7 in relation to Israel’s meeting of obligations imposed by international law about conduct during a war.
“Establishing a state commission of inquiry will convey an important and unifying message to the Israeli public. The entire government, leaders, and security systems will receive an in-depth, objective, and professional examination,” Gantz explained.
“This [investigation] will seek to begin the process of national healing,” Gantz said.
