Michelle Obama’s Dark Money Group Launches Campaign To Turn Out Likely-Democrat Voters
Former First Lady Michelle Obama has never been one to shy away from sharing her highly-partisan political views. So, it came as no surprise when an organization she created announced a coordinated campaign last week to target and register likely-Democrat voters ahead of the 2024 election.
On Thursday, the Obama-founded When We All Vote initiative launched its “Culture of Democracy Tour,” a summer-long effort to “register, educate and engage thousands of voters and volunteers.” This tour, according to the group’s press release, aims to bring “voting to popular culture through events, sweepstakes, campaigns, voter registration drives and more in partnership with the organization’s thousands of volunteers and partners.”
The campaign appears to be part of When We All Vote’s “Culture of Democracy Collective,” a network of more than 200 organizations and businesses focused on “registering, educating and mobilizing voters.” Many of the initiative’s partners are well-known groups and corporations, such as the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center and Lyft. According to When We All Vote’s presser, the rideshare company has committed to “offer[ing] discounted rides to the polls during primaries, early voting and on Election Day across the country, as well as help riders, drivers and team members register, prepare to vote and understand voting ID requirements.”
Sports teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves are also members of the network.
A Democrat GOTV Drive Masquerading as ‘Nonpartisan’
Despite professing to be a “nonpartisan initiative,” When We All Vote’s summer campaign is anything but. Many of the events the organization plans to participate in cater to demographics favorable to Democrats.
For example, the group is slated to have a presence at the Essence Festival of Culture and the Global Black Economic Forum’s Summit and Conference, which are slated to be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, in early July. Both entities cater to black Americans, a key Democrat voting bloc with whom Joe Biden is struggling to maintain support ahead of the 2024 election.
When We All Vote also plans several “National Days of Action and Volunteer Mobilization” in which “[h]undreds of volunteers will host voter registration drives and get their communities registered and ready to vote.” These days are strategically planned to correspond with some of the left’s favorite holidays, with “Pride Month voter registration drives throughout June” and a “Weekend of Action” tied to Juneteenth.
The organization’s activities further extend into the digital arena, in which When We All Vote officials will collaborate with athletes and celebrities on “digital campaigns” designed to “engage voters.” In addition to Obama, the group is co-chaired by leftist celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, Steph Curry, and Jennifer Lopez.
Earlier this year, When We All Vote announced its goal of turning out 5 million voters during the 2024 elections. The group is also seeking to register “at least 500,000 Americans to vote — especially Black, Brown and young voters,” all of which are constituencies that lean Democrat.
A Lever in Democrats’ Dark Money Election Machine
When We All Vote’s role in facilitating Democrat-friendly get-out-the-vote activities is not an anomaly, but a facet of the Democrat dark money machine engulfing America’s elections system.
When We All Vote is an initiative of Civic Nation, a left-wing nonprofit headed by Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser to President Barack Obama. Civic Nation is also behind the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, an enterprise established in 2016 that encourages colleges to increase voter participation among students — another demographic favorable to Democrats.
As noted by InfluenceWatch, When We All Vote is heavily funded by the New Venture Fund, a left-wing advocacy group that’s part of Arabella Advisors‘ “dark money” network. The organization reportedly dumped $4.2 million into When We All Vote ahead of the 2018 midterms, according to the Capital Research Center.

When We All Vote’s 2024 GOTV strategy follows the breadcrumbs laid by other left-wing 501(c)(3) voter registration groups that came before it. Rather than publicly affirm its goal is to register likely-Democrat voters — actions that would violate federal law — the group masquerades its partisan efforts by claiming it’s merely targeting demographics that are “underrepresented” or “historically disenfranchised.”
In other words, the game plan is to circumvent the law by specifically registering constituencies they believe will pull the lever for the Democrat Party at the ballot box.
