Capt. Alon Sacgiu, 22, killed in explosion in Jenin, 16 wounded

Capt. Alon Sacgiu, 22, from Hadera, a sniper team commander in the Haruv Reconnaissance Unit in the Kfir Brigade, fell during operational activity in the area of Jenin, the IDF announced on Thursday.

During the incident in which Capt. Alon Sacgiu fell, and another soldier from the Haruv Reconnaissance Unit of the Kfir Brigade was severely wounded. The soldier was evacuated to receive medical treatment at a hospital, and his family was notified.

Sacgui was killed during a complex operation in Jenin in the West Bank, in which 15 additional soldiers were wounded in varying degrees of severity.

In the incident, an armored vehicle drove over a road where there was a planted explosive device underground, according to Israeli media reports.

Following the damage to the vehicle, an engineering vehicle arrived at the scene to extricate it. Shortly afterward, another armored vehicle arrived, and soldiers disembarked to assist those in the first vehicle. However, they stepped on a second explosive device that was planted there.

Sacgui and all the injured in the incident were the soldiers who got out of the second vehicle. There were no injuries from the first vehicle that drove over the first explosive device.

Five moderately wounded, ten lightly wounded

In addition to the soldier who was severely wounded, five were moderately wounded, including an officer and a paramedic. 

Additionally, ten soldiers were lightly wounded, including an officer and a reservist. All wounded soldiers have been evacuated to hospitals for immediate medical treatment. 

The soldiers were operating in Jenin against Hamas infrastructure in the area.
