Female officer wounded by screwdriver-wielding terrorist south of Jerusalem

A border police officer was lightly wounded after a terrorist stabbed her with a screwdriver in a terror attack at the Tunnels Checkpoint on Route 60 south of Jerusalem, the police said on Tuesday.

The terrorist was eliminated by IDF troops and border police officers operating at the checkpoint, the police said.

Terrorist also carried a knife

The terrorist arrived at the checkpoint on a bus, which was stopped for inspection, after which he attacked the officer, the police added.

In addition to carrying a screwdriver, a knife, and a tear gas spray were found in the terrorist’s possession, the police noted.

Earlier, Magen David Adom (MDA) stated a 20-year-old woman was lightly wounded and was fully conscious following the attack. She was subsequently transferred to the Hadassah-University Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem for further medical treatment.

MDA paramedics Nur Hajajra and Yaakov Grinwald recounted what they saw upon arrival at the scene.

“We arrived on scene and found the casualty fully conscious with a minor injury,” they said. “We provided medical treatment and evacuated her to hospital in a MICU, fully conscious and in mild condition.”

United Hatzalah volunteer paramedic Yoni Ohayon said, “I was traveling on the Tunnels Road when I received a report from United Hatzalah’s Dispatch Center about an attack at the Tunnels Checkpoint. I quickly arrived at the scene and provided initial medical assistance to a young woman of about 20 years old, who was evacuated to Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. Her condition at this stage is defined as light and stable.”

Police said that forces were searching the area following the attack, and the checkpoint had been closed on both sides.

This is a developing story.
