Veteran Russian war correspondent wounded in Ukrainian drone attack
Journalist Evgeny Poddubny has reportedly been seriously injured in Russia’s Kursk Region
Evgeny Poddubny, a war correspondent for the state-run TV channel Russia-1, has been wounded in Kursk Region, the broadcaster confirmed on Wednesday.
The journalist had been covering ongoing hostilities in Russia’s Kursk Region, which continued after Kiev’s forces launched a major cross-border incursion early on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, the reporter was injured when his car was hit by a Ukrainian FPV kamikaze drone.
The journalist received “serious wounds” in the attack and has been hospitalized, the broadcaster has said.
The reporter has regained consciousness and is now receiving all the necessary treatment, interim Governor of Kursk, Aleksey Smirnov, has said.
A few hours before the attack, Poddubny published a drone video showing an apparent war crime committed by the Ukrainian troops in the Russian village of Zeleny Shlyah, located near the border.
Footage shows a Ukrainian US-made Stryker armored personnel carrier, concealed in thick shrubbery, opening fire on a civilian vehicle at point blank range. The vehicle ran into a ditch, catching fire, while all its occupants were killed on the spot, the reporter noted.
Over his career, the 40-year-old war correspondent has covered multiple armed conflicts, including hostilities in Africa and the Middle East. Since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022, Poddubny has been extensively working in the region, repeatedly providing first-hand reports and going on air from the hottest points of the frontline.
