Russian forces repel latest Ukrainian incursion attempt – MOD
Kiev lost over 300 troops and many pieces of heavy equipment in Kursk Region, including two Leopard tanks, according to Moscow
Russia’s Armed Forces have successfully repelled three attempts by Ukrainian troops to break through the border near the settlement of Novy Put in Kursk Region, the Defense Ministry in Moscow reported on Wednesday.
According to the ministry’s daily update, the Russian military, with the support of aviation and artillery, drove back the attacks, in which Kiev’s forces reportedly lost up to 50 personnel, as well as three tanks, an infantry fighting vehicle and an armored combat vehicle
In its report the ministry also stated that, over the past day, Russian forces had also repelled two enemy counterattacks near the settlement of Lyubimovka in Kursk Region, eliminating up to 15 Ukrainian troops, destroying several vehicles and taking one soldier captive.
The ministry stated that Russian forces continue to carry out operations to defeat the Ukrainian groups that have penetrated into Kursk Region and that, over the past 24 hours, Kiev has in total lost more than 300 servicemen, seven armored vehicles including three tanks, two of which were German-made Leopard tanks, one infantry fighting vehicle, three armored combat vehicles, two artillery pieces and six cars.
Kiev launched its incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region in early August, initially making some gains. Moscow, however, has said that the advance has since been contained and that Russian forces continue to inflict heavy casualties on the invaders and are gradually pushing them out of Russian territory.
According to estimates by the Russian military, since launching the incursion Ukraine has lost more than 17,000 troops, 130 tanks, and hundreds of combat vehicles, artillery pieces, and other military equipment, much of it supplied to Kiev by its Western backers.
