Mossad chief Barnea to meet Burns in Doha to renew hostage talks

David Barnea, the head of Israel’s Mossad, will travel to Doha, Qatar early next week in an attempt to restart negotiations for a hostage release and ceasefire deal with several key figures, Israeli media reported.

Barnea will meet with CIA head Bill Burns, Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdel-Rahman Al-Thani, and the head of Egyptian intelligence, Hassan Rashad.

Top US, Qatari officials announce further negotiations

The Prime Minister’s Office announced the delegation after Qatar and Washington’s top diplomats said that negotiators will gather in Doha to try to restart talks toward a deal for a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza.

Hamas officials have also stated that they are sending representatives for talks in Doha.

According to KAN reports, Barnea had recommended to leadership that due to recent successes with the assassinations of Nasrallah and Sinwar, Israel should be able to prepare to move forward with a deal. He also added that he recommended Israel behave flexibility to move forward with the deal, the report said.

The outline of the current proposal is allegedly closer to the deal promoted by Qatari mediators, as opposed to a deal proposed between the Ronen Bar and Egyptian intelligence parties involved, according to Israeli media.

These reports also place focus on queries regarding Hamas in the proposal. Hamas has consistently demanded the release of many prisoners and full IDF withdrawal.
