Harris campaign releases Fortnite map
The campaign team for the US Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, launched a custom map for the popular video game Fortnite on Monday in an apparent bid to reach out to the younger audience.
The map called ‘Freedom Town, USA’ loosely resembles New York City with the Statue of Liberty overlooking clusters of skyscrapers in the middle of an ocean. The location is filled with pro-Harris slogans and decorations in the colors of the US national flag.
“Squad up, go vote,” the Harris campaign said on X on Saturday while unveiling the map with the tagline “fight for freedom” and using a song by rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who performed at one of Harris’ rallies in Atlanta in August.
The map is also themed around the US vice president’s campaign pledges like tax breaks for small businesses and affordable housing. The move comes amid a broader effort by the Harris campaign to reach out to gamers and younger voters in general.
Other steps involved the Geeks & Nerds for Harris fundraiser, during which Democratic vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, played Madden NFL and Crazy Taxi with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The Democratic campaign also placed advertisements in mobile games, sports betting platforms and on YouTube.
With just a week left before Election Day, Harris and her Republican rival, former president Donald Trump, have been collecting celebrity endorsements. Tech billionaire Elon Musk began speaking at Trump events last month, while pop star Beyonce endorsed Harris during a rally on Friday in Houston.
