Trump nominates youngest press secretary in US history
President-elect Donald Trump has announced that Karoline Leavitt, the spokesperson for his 2024 campaign, will become the White House press secretary when he takes office in January. At just 27 years old, Leavitt will make history as the youngest person to hold the position.
In a statement released on Friday, Trump praised Leavitt for her performance during his campaign. “Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historic Campaign,” he said. “She is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American People as we, Make America Great Again.”
Leavitt served as assistant press secretary in the first Trump administration under Kayleigh McEnany, who is now a prominent host on Fox News. In her announcement on social media, Leavitt expressed gratitude to Trump, stating, “Thank you, President Trump, for believing in me. I am humbled and honored. Let’s MAGA!”
With Leavitt’s appointment, she will become the youngest individual to serve in the top press role since Ron Ziegler, who was 29 when selected during Richard Nixon’s administration in the 1970s. Before joining Trump’s 2024 campaign, Leavitt worked as a senior aide to Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), whom Trump recently nominated to serve as ambassador to the United Nations.
