Trump Orders Release of Long-Secret Final Files On JFK, RFK, MLK Assassinations; It’s Time to Defund PBS—and NPR, Too
Trump orders release of long-secret final files on JFK, RFK, MLK assassinations:
President Trump on Thursday ordered the declassification and release of long-secret files on the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert F. Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
“Everything will be revealed,” Trump, 78, said in the Oval Office as he signed an executive order mandating the disclosure — after decades of speculation and conspiracy theories about each of the slayings.
The order says “the release of these records is long overdue” and requires the Justice Department and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to rapidly prepare for the release.
Officials will have 15 days to “present a plan to the President for the full and complete release of records” on the JFK assassination and 45 days to do so for the RFK and MLK cases.
President Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963 in Dallas — with prime suspect Lee Harvey Oswald murdered himself two days later by nightclub owner Jack Ruby, spurring lasting debate about whether Oswald was part of, or a patsy in, a shadowy conspiracy.
Oswald, a Marine Corps veteran, defected to the Soviet Union four years before the assination and later returned to the US. In late September 1963, Oswald both visited the Cuban Consulate in Mexico City and contacted the Soviet Embassy there, ostensibly to arrange travel visas.
Less than two weeks before the assassination, Oswald wrote to the Soviet Embassy in Washington, complaining: “[H]ad I been able to reach the Soviet Embassy in Havana, as planned, the embassy there would have had time to complete our business.”
In a CIA document released in response to a separate order by Trump in 2017, an official wrote: “Although it appears that [Oswald] was then thinking only about a peaceful change of residence to the Soviet Union, it is also possible that he was getting documented to make a quick escape after assassinating the president.”
Ruby’s own known links to organized crime have provided another breeding ground for JFK conspiracy theories.
Then-New York Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was shot dead by Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian Christian, in June 1968 — shortly after winning California’s Democratic presidential contest. Sirhan’s attorney at one point claimed he was framed. —>READ MORE HERE
It’s Time to Defund PBS—and NPR, Too:
PBS receives hundreds of millions of dollars in federal taxpayer funding, but its bias against conservatives threatens democracy by spreading fake news and pitting Americans against each other.
President Donald Trump and Congress should fix this.
On Monday, PBS falsely reported: “Billionaire Elon Musk gave what appeared to be a fascist salute Monday while making a speech at the post-inauguration celebration for President Donald Trump at the Capital One Arena.”
Claims like this help explain why Trump won and why trust in the media has cratered in recent decades. This sort of ridiculous commentary is opinion and not news. Americans deserve better than these types of falsehoods.
In his speech, Musk told the audience: “My heart goes out to you.” He gestured in kindness and vulnerability, not control. The criticism that he received not only from PBS, but numerous other legacy media outlets is why men are reluctant to show emotion in society.
The Anti-Defamation League, a prominent activist group that combats antisemitism, said the gesture was not a Nazi salute.
This is a delicate moment. It’s a new day, and yet so many are on edge. Our politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety. It seems that @elonmusk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge.
In this moment, all sides should give one another a bit of grace, perhaps even the benefit of the doubt, and take a breath. This is a new beginning. Let’s hope for healing and work toward unity in the months and years ahead.
PBS also ignored a series of Democratic politicians making similar gestures, including repeated similar gestures by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
Musk shook off the criticism. “The legacy media is pure propaganda. You are the media now,” he said, referring to the voters and X users.
Thankfully, PBS caught the attention of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., who said: “As the chairwoman of the Oversight Subcommittee on [the Department of Government Efficiency], I look forward to PBS coming before my committee and explaining why lying and spreading propaganda to serve the Democrat Party and attack Republicans is a good use of taxpayer funds. We will be in touch soon.” —>READ MORE HERE
