Israeli official: Body of Hadar Goldin will be returned from Gaza next week
The body of Hadar Goldin will not be returned to Israel this week, but rather towards the end of phase one next week, an Israeli official told Maariv on Tuesday.
Hadar Goldin’s body has been held by Hamas for over 10 years since he was killed during Operation Protective Edge in 2014.
When the IDF first released the number of hostages taken following October 7, they did not include Goldin, his mother Leah said.
Similarly, the initial number didn’t include Avera Mengistu, an Israeli taken captive in 2014, Hisham al-Sayed, who has been held by Hamas since 2015, and Oron Shaul, who, like Goldin, fell in Gaza during the 2014 operation.
Only after fighting with officials was Leah Goldin able to ensure that the hostages taken before October 7 were included in the hostage count.
‘Israeli society will collapse’
In March 2024, Israel sent Hamas a proposal that included the bodies of Shaul and Goldin, though the deal fell through.
Simcha Goldin, Hadar’s father, spoke at the beginning of the war at a press conference of relatives of the families of the kidnapped and missing, and said, “The voice from here must be uniform and clear – if the state does not return all the captives and missing, Israeli society will collapse.”
