Democrats Would Be Better Off Not Responding To Trump’s Joint Address To Congress

It’s supposed to be a highly clever move by Democrats to have picked a Midwest “moderate” senator who outperformed Kamala Harris in 2024 — talk about a low bar — to deliver the party’s response to President Trump’s address to Congress on Tuesday. But in case you won’t make it to 11 p.m. EST for that one, here’s what you’ll miss: Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin will likely sit at a kitchen table and offer a ridiculous argument that Donald Trump’s one month in office is the reason why prices are high and “chaos” has reigned.

They will have surely paid some political consultant tens of thousands of dollars to come up with that corny display and, look — I just gave it to them for free.

I’m not particularly generous in crediting the American public for its long memory, but I suspect not a single person will be receptive to the claim that it was only on Jan. 20, 2025, that the nation plunged into a nightmare of unaffordable groceries and foreign wars. No, that was a steady project four years in the making under the last administration. Slotkin will surely hype up the trade tariffs Trump just slapped on Mexico, Canada, and China as the cause of current prices, but in the words of our despicable news media, she will do it “without evidence.”

We very literally don’t know what the effect of the new tariffs will be. Any price increases will likely be temporary, as consumers reduce the amount of affected products they consume, which inevitably forces companies to bring the costs back down in order to sell more. Or maybe events take place eliminating any purpose for the tariffs before they have any enduring effect. Either way, to the extent that there’s a case to be made against Trump’s economic agenda, boy, oh boy, are Democrats in no position to make it.

I don’t know much about Slotkin, but I can only assume she’s an idiot for having agreed to give her party’s rebuttal. Unless she was empowered by leadership to stand up and say Democrat failure is what got us in the very situation we find ourselves, there’s not much else for her to do that would hold any value. But she was certainly not given that permission. Democrats don’t believe they failed to govern. They believe they failed to convince voters that their destructive, anti-American policies were actually good.

In every interview given by an elected Democrat, they say some variation of the same thing. Their “messaging” failed. They need to do better on podcasts. They need to talk like “real” Americans. They need to “emphasize” the “concerns” of Americans.

What they won’t say is that their party’s agenda, enacted by President Biden was a total, mind-blowing bust. The trillions of unnecessary spending they dumped on the quickly recovering economy has made a single dollar essentially worthless. The government backing of electric vehicles and “green technology” has warped the auto and energy industries. And stunning incompetence in foreign relations has left us still managing two hot wars abroad.

That doesn’t even address the rampant crime instigated and excused by Democrat leaders, the lasting devastation of their Covid lockdown mandates, and the corrosive effects of their nauseous fixations on race and sex.

Democrats and Slotkin can say whatever they want about Trump and the “chaos” he caused by laying off government employees, but they’ve nothing to say for themselves.
