Katz and Zamir meet to work in cooperation following public clash

Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir were seen meeting together, following a public clash between the two, Israeli media reported on Tuesday.

“We are working together in full cooperation for the security of Israel – as it has been and as it will always be,” the two said in a joint statement at the conclusion of the meeting.

Katz had previously pushed back against Zamir over tensions surrounding the military’s internal investigation into Brig.-Gen. (res.) Oren Solomon on Tuesday.

“The defense minister issues directives to the chief of staff, who is subordinate to the political echelon, as he sees fit,” Katz noted. “The chief of staff’s response was unnecessary and out of place.”

Solomon had carried out a probe into the conduct of the IDF Southern Command during the October 7 massacre. He dispatched a letter to the minister and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming the military had made efforts to conceal or manipulate documentation relating to the events.

Recent investigation

Solomon was recently investigated by the military’s division for criminal investigation over suspicions that arose on matters relating to information security. Following the investigation, On Monday, Katz requested that Solomon be summoned and the conclusions of the probe be presented to him.

Later that day, Zamir wrote, “The Chief of Staff does not take instructions through media statements.”

Early on Tuesday morning, the minister issued a statement calling for the halt in the discourse to the media.
