Members of Israel’s Druze community protested against anti-Druze violence in Syria on Thursday night by blocking the Kabri Intersection, east of northern Israel’s Nahariya, KAN News reported.

In video footage shared by KAN, the Druze protesters were waving Druze flags and lighting tire fires.

KAN also reported a Druze protest at Ami’ad Junction, north of the Sea of Galilee, with activists climbing traffic lights, hanging Druze flags.

Israeli-Druze activists denouncing the violence against their community in Syria marched towards Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s private residence in Caesarea on Thursday night.

KAN reported that bonfires on the road led to unrest between the activists and civilians who were stuck in their vehicles.

Spiritual Leader, MK, call for calm

Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, the spiritual leader of Israel’s Druze community, and MK Hamad Amar (Yisrael Beytenu) issued a joint statement asking activists to clear the roads and return home.

On Wednesday, Tarif called on Israel to act to defend the Druze communities around Damascus, stating, “I urge the State of Israel, the international community, and the Jewish people to act immediately to prevent a massacre. Israel must not stand idly by while this is happening in Syria. The responsibility to act lies with the nation’s leaders: you must act. The time for action is now.”
