Public health advisory urges British Columbians to avoid staying inside, going outside

VANCOUVER – Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health have issued a joint public health advisory today urging British Columbians to avoid staying inside due to extreme heat, and also to avoid going outside due to dangerously low .

Environment Canada meteorologist Stan Cablebill tells us that with record breaking temperatures reached all over B.C., and wildfire smoke in the Greater Vancouver Area resulting in an Air Quality Health Index of 11 out of 10, now would be the optimal time for residents to spend less time indoors and also outdoors.

“Marginalized communities are often hit hardest by situations like this,” says Cablebill, “because they do not have easy access to resources that would enable them to be neither in nor outside.”

“The least the government can do during this unprecedented, historic, but also annual crisis,” he concludes, “is provide these vulnerable communities with clear advisories and helpful messaging such as this.”

“God, at least the pandemic is over, right?”
