Jesus' Coming Back

Five jokes only Canadians will get (because they’re all just lines from Corner Gas)

Dog River, SK – There are so many funny things about being Canadian, and most of them are jokes from the Gemini Award-winning sitcom Corner Gas. No one else around the world can understand the hilarious antics of Brent and his friends quite like Canadians do, because the show is from Canada and aired on a Canadian TV channel.

These five gut-splitting jokes will make you chuckle, chortle, and howl with delight, but only if you’re Canadian, because otherwise you probably won’t recognize the specific references to Corner Gas, Corner Gas: The Movie, and Corner Gas Animated.

1. When Lacey couldn’t help but ask, “What’s with the melons?” and Hank gave the perfect explanation: “Uh, they make a big splat!” (season 1, episode 1)

Every Canadian knows watermelons make a funny sound when they hit the ground. Why? Because Hank said so on Corner Gas one time.

2. How about the time Karen asked, “Does anybody own a pickup truck with a cracked windshield?” and every single person in the coffee shop turned around (season 4, episode 6)

Ask any Canadian you know if they own a pickup truck with a cracked windshield. They’ll know what you mean! (Because it is a joke from Corner Gas, often considered the most successful television program in Canadian history.)

3. When Brent really doesn’t want to answer Lacey’s question, so he masterfully changes the subject: “Hey look, pickled eggs!” (season 3, episode 14)

Could a non-Canadian understand this? No. No! No, they couldn’t. Just let us have this. Don’t take Corner Gas from us like you took Schitt’s Creek.

4. “You can tell me that your dog ran away, then tell me that it took three days!” (The theme song)

This joke doesn’t make sense, but Canadians love it anyway! Why? Because we have to. It’s Corner Gas. Brent Butt is all we have and we must cherish him.

5. And finally, when anyone mentions Wullerton, you know what’s coming next – everybody spits on the ground!

Look, I just need some morsel of Canadian culture to cling onto. Let this be it. I’m so tired of Drake. So, so tired.

Brent Butt is everything to me.
