Vegas Golden Knights defeat Edmonton Draisaitls 5-4
LAS VEGAS – The Golden Knights opened up a 1-0 series lead in the Western Conference Semifinals last night, defeating the Edmonton Leon Draisaitls 6-4.
“Glad we won but it was a tough battle,” said Knights coach Bruce Cassidy. “Exactly one guy on the other team really made us work for it.”
“Next game we may even try covering him.”
Edmonton got key goals from veteran centre Leon Draisaitl and German sniper Leon Draisaitl in the first. Then “pissy” playmaker Leon Draisaitl managed to tie the game in the third before Vegas scored back to back to open up a two goal lead. A one-timer from the speedy Leon Draisaitl got the team back within one, but they could get no further.
“We need to remember it’s first to 4 not first to 1,” said Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft. “If we just get a little more out of Leon Draisaitl next game I think we’ll have a real chance.”
The Edmonton Drasisaitls are still hoping to make it at least as far as the Conference Finals, which they made last year when the team was known as the Edmonton McDavids.
