CONCORD, NH—Noting that at 73-years-old, she was more than capable of knowing a legitimate online store when she saw one, local mother Linda Jeffries defended her choice Monday to put her credit card number into a website with the URL virus.crime. “Well, let me guess, everyone is going to say I did something wrong, but I promise, the page looked real, it had a logo, and it said multiple places that it had something called the official trust seal of approval,” said Jeffries, adding that the website, which flashed the words “gift bonanza,” “big time prize,” and “pretty wow,” couldn’t have been bad because she found the link through Facebook. “I know what you’re thinking. Yes, the ad that I clicked on was all in some foreign language, but my friend from college posted it, so it couldn’t have been bad. Plus, when I signed up, I got 200 of something called ‘world coins’ that I could spend on Shamazon gift cards. We’re going to have so many Ray-Bans this Christmas. Just you wait.” At press time, Jeffries was defending her choice to give her routing number to a man who called her cell phone and said he worked for “Apple and/or Microsoft.”
